First we had to draw each square accurately on squared paper. Then we cut them out but some children drew them staight on to the paper which was a lot harder. Once we had cut out the squares, we tried to put them in order so that we could create a rectangle. Some were a lot quiker than others! We had to try a combination of ways to see how the squares would fit together to make a rectangle. Finally we put them in the correct order (see photo). The dimensions of the rectangle were 32cm by 33cm. Some of the class then checked that 32 x 33 = 1056 which was the same as the total area of all the individual squares. We were very pleased once we had solved the problem!
