and midpoint
1. Between 70 kg and 90 kg 80 kgs 88-80 = 8
2. Between 75 kg and 100 kg 87.5 kgs 88-87.5 = 0.5
3. Between 88 kg and 140 kg 114 kgs 114-88 = 26
4. Between 90 kg and 95 kg 92.5 kgs 92.5-88 = 4.5 kgs
5. 85 kg exactly 85 88-85 = 3 kgs
The second child should win the award because his answer was closest to the actual value.
In this case we are not considering the range of the answer but we are only using its mid value. Hence if a child says 70-90 or if he says 60-100 we will only use the mid-point of his range to see if his guess is closest to the final answer.
