We noticed that 9 graphs showed an improvement over time apart from Graph 7. We knew that graph 7 was the Men's Decathlon because all of the results were all over the place and the scale has 4 digit numbers which didn't fit in with any other event.
The graphs that have plotted points that go upwards are measuring length or height. The graphs with points going down are measuring time.
Graph 1 is the men's 100m because it shows faster times than the women's 100m race and we know that this takes about 10 seconds. So graph 10 must be the women's 100m. (Men can run faster than women)
Graphs 4 and 6 must be the Men's and Women's high jump because they have similar numbers on the y axis. The men's graph is graph 4 which shows slighty higher jumps. (Men can jump higher than women)
Graph 2 is the Men's long jump as it shows a measure of appropriate length.
Graph 5 is the javelin because it is the only length graph left.
Graph 9 is the relay because if you know 100m is around 10 seconds, times that by 4, then you have around 40 seconds. The points on the graph are around this number.
Graph 3 is the women's 1500m it shows the shortest time out of the graphs left, so Graph 8 must be the women's 10,000m.
