Emily's Solution:
For the last Jump Ben jumps 3.75m. To find the length of the first jump you have to divide 3.75m by 3 to find a third of the jump. That answer is 1.25m, so you take away 1.25m from 3.75 and your answer is 2.5m!
Lucas,Drew, Ally and Kim's way:
We used a method by trial and error.
We estimated the size of the first jump between 2m and 3m. Then we started using some numbers to find out if they were correct. We halved the number then added it to the number we halved. For example.
If he jumped 2.8m. Then we halved it which is 1.4, then we added it to 2.8 which is 4.2. This was too far.
In the end we managed to find 2.5m as the correct distance jumped. Because, half of 2.5 is 1.25, then add them together and you get 3.75m.
Using these methods, we quickly worked out Mia's High Jump which was 0.8m
