Our class experimented with different strategies and numbers.
We tried putting a 5 in the bottom of the magic v first and found that 4 + 1+ 5 = 10 and on the other side 3 + 2 + 5 also equalled 10.
We kept trying with different numbers at the bottom and we found 3 possibilities that worked.
They all had an odd number at the bottom.
The other possibilities were 1 + 4 + 3 = 8 and 1 + 5 +2 = 8, and 3 + 4 + 2 =9 and 3 + 5 + 1 = 9.
We found that the even numbers could not be placed at the bottom of the v because even + even = even, odd + odd = even and odd + even = odd.
That meant with an even number at the bottom it would not be correct.
