Say that for this activity, I chose the number 4. 4 plus 4 equals 8, and when 8 is doubled, it equals 16.

4+4=8
8x2=16

The machine halves your final number then subtracts 4. The answer of this is the number that you started off with. So, in other words, the machine does what you did in reverse. It's simple, isn't it?
