There are 8 Zios and 4 Zepts.
We started thinking if there were 7 Zepts, there would be only one Zio. 7x7=49 legs. Plus 1 Zio has 3 legs. A total of 52 legs. But we knew from the problem there had to be more than one Zio.
Then we tried 6 Zepts (42 legs) and 3 Zios (9 legs) but that was 1 leg short.
We kept trying until we reached 4 Zepts and 8 Zios. We realized that would add up to 52 legs and then knew that was the answer. We looked for more answers but we only found that one.
(4x7) + (8x3) = 28 + 24 = 52
