I noticed straight away that the all the circles with one colour and not split were prime numbers.

Then I noticed that any circle with the red/pink colour, were multiples of 2 and that the yellows were multiples of 5.

By starting with just the top row, and looking at the number 10, I realised that the circles were representing prime factor trees.

The problem asked why the 11 times table go diagonally. When you add ten you go down a column but because you are adding 11 you add ten (move down one) and add one (move across one) therefore creating a diagonal line.
