I would make a cross in the centre not up of 2 10km lines going on opposite diagonals but rather 4 5km lines , 2 going the same direction and 2 going the opposite way and so all 4 poles are connected as they can all reach one another and moreover the total is only 20km which is way less than 28km or 30km
