We did these steps to solve this problem
We first wrote down the 3 times table up to 27 because 30 is 3*10 and 10 is not in one digit. Then we worked out the value of each letter of the alphabet. We started with 1abcde*3=abcde1. We knew e*3 ends with an 1 because abcde1 ends in a one. Then we looked at our 3 times table. The only number that ends with an 1 was 21 which is 3*7. So e had to be 7. We knew that the tens place has to end in a 7 and d*3 has to end in a 5. We looked at our 3 times table and the only number that ended in 5 was 15, which is 3*5. So d=5. We repeated this process until we got to the final answer of 428571. We also did the same process in the second problem and finally got to the answer of 857142.
We think there is only 1 answer for these questions because only 1 digit could be used for each alphabet.
