If you go 2 steps up and 2 steps down you will need 4 blocks.
If you go 3 steps up and 3 steps down you will need 9 blocks.
If you go 4 steps up and 4 steps down you will need 16 blocks.
So it looks like you have to multiply the number of steps up times the number of steps down. So if you want to know how many blocks you will need to go 5 steps up and 5 steps down you have to multiply 5 x 5 which equals 25 blocks.
