When solving this problem I found out that you simply needed t use the process of elimination. Reading the clues and making obvious conclusions was a very important aspect of it. Since Alan is friends with three people he can only be in two positions that could be Alan's position. The further into the question you then realise that Alan can only be in the top one and from there the other people can be positioned accordingly to the clues. Each problem had a unique solution since there was no other way for the people to be positioned. The only clue that I didn't need to use was the fact of Emily and Ciara are not friends. When you labeled each node with the other number of nodes connected to it. When you divided that by 2 you had the number of lines on the problem.
