a strategy is to perhaps type in a number one by one so start with 1 then 2,3.4 etc and recording each light and number that gets turned on. For each rule you can know if all the numbers are going to be odd or even or mixed. One of the rules i got was 8n-6 and you can know that all the numbers in the sequence is going to be even because if you subtract both numbers in the formula so in this case 8-6 it would be 2 and thats how you'd know that all the numbers would be even and if you try it so if n was 252 the number in the sequence would be 2010. If your formula was 2n-1 you can tell all the numbers are going to be odd because if you do 2-1 it is 1 and and 1 is an odd number and if you try it with n being 26 the number in that sequence would be 51. To find out if its a mixed sequence if you had the formula 9n-1 you know it's going to be mixed because you are subtracting 2 odd numbers so basically 9-1 which is 8 and even though that's an even number the sequence will include both odd and even if you try it with n=3 the number would 26 and if n=4 35 so you know that its going to have a mixture of odd and even.
