1) I copied the hidden text into a word document and I got a piece of paper for workings out. On the word document I made a space between all of the letters in the scrambled text. I had a 19*10 grid plus an extra 'x' under the 10 letters on the left-hand side.
2) I knew that the 'T' at the start of the passage was most probably going to be followed with an ‘h’. So, on my piece of paper I took the first ‘h’ in the passage and moved it down a line so that the top of my passage was 8 letters across.
3) I then had to clarify that I was correct, so I moved the next line of the passage so that the 1st and 2nd line were both 8 letters across. When I did this the first 3 letters on the left-hand side spelled ‘The’.
4) I copied the passage again onto a new word document. I now knew that every 8th letter fits together. E.g. T t a n o p n s h o n s t p d e e.
5) Every 8th letter after the 1st letter in the passage (1st letter, 9th letter, 17th letter etc) I made a symbol so it was easier to find the words. When I had marked every 8th letter in the scrambled script I then had to mark every 2nd, 10th, 18th etc letter with a different symbol and 3rd, 11th, 19th etc letter with another symbol.
6) When I had done this my 1st part of the script said: ‘Therabbitholewentstraightonlikeatunnelforsomewayandthendippedsuddenlydown.’ I then had to space the words and the text then looked like this: ‘The rabbit hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way and then dipped suddenly down’.
7) I thought this must be a quote from a book, so I searched ‘The rabbit hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way and then dipped suddenly down’ in google. In a description of a website it had the quote and it also mentioned ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Therefore I went onto www.gutenberg.org (a website I knew from a previous challenge) and searched ‘Alice in Wonderland’ in the Book Search.
8) I clicked on ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland'. The text was written in the 5th paragraph of the story.
9) To be able to tell how much text I had to copy, I had to work out the 7th, 14th, 21st etc letter to be able to tell which words the passage was going to finish with. It finished like this: deepwellx which would be ‘deep well’. Because I had worked this out I was able to copy the correct amount of text onto my piece of paper.
The spaced passage read:
‘The rabbit hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way and then dipped suddenly down so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down a very deep well’.
