We had the same idea as Brendan and cut the pieces to move around but couldn't solve it.

Then we looked at Chandra's method and figured out 1056 was the area of the rectangle. So we took the 18cm square and added different squares to it.

We found the 14cm was the correct sqaure as 14cm and 18cm made 32 which divided into 1056.

The other number was 33cm (32 x 33 = 1056) so we knew the sides of the rectangle. We still found it a bit tricky so we thought about the 1cm x 1cm square.

We figured out that we needed to spiral around the 1cm so it could be fitted in and used 7cm, 8cm, 9cm and 10cm because they were similar sizes. After we fitted in the 18cm and 15cm squares as one length of the large rectangle the 14cm square fitted and so did the pieces around the 1cm by 1cm square.
