Can you draw any conclusions?
we found that you can always make odd numbers by using consecutive
numbers. we also found that you cannot make numbers to the power of two. you
cannot make even numbers with two consecutive numbers.
Can you support your conclusions with convincing arguments or
proofs?
the formula for creating an odd number is (x-1)÷2, this will work everytime.
we tested this by writing out all of the sums of consecutive numbers up to
30 and we found that you could make every number(and some had two
or even three ways of making it) exept for 1,2,4,8 and 1the numbers to the power of 2)
What are the possible next questions?
we could use subtraction or multiplication
or division. we could carry on more (up to
one hundred?). we could only use three or four of five(etc...)
consecutive numbers. we could use
negative numbers, decimals or fractions.
