First we conjectured that at least one of the numbers would be more than 3 because we reasoned that any 2 numbers that are 3 or below divided by each other never equals more than 3 and 3.125 is more than 3.
Then we figured out that one of the numbers would have be below 10 otherwise the other number would be over 50.
To make sure that the answer would be in the catchment area of 3 to 4 we had to make the second number be in the catchment area of 20 to 30.
We then worked systematically ordering the calculations until we arrived at the solution of 25 divided by 8 equals 3.125. We enjoyed it! One of our groups worked it out in under 2 minutes - we challenge other schools to beat us!
