Today I ate a 30g packet of crisps at morning break time, as I always do, so I estimate that I eat almost 11kg of crisps a year.
If the scientist works 5 days a week then her estimate was way off from the actual answer. She mistakenly estimated the amount of crisps for 7 days a week, when she only works 5.
5 Days a week;
30g x 5days = 150g
150g x 48weeks = 7200g
= 7.2kg
If the scientists works 7 days a week then she was almost correct and her estimate was quite acurate, she was only off by 12g.
7 Days a week:
30g x 7days = 210g
210g x 48weeks = 10080g
= 10.08kg
The reason why it is calculated with 48 weeks instead of 52 weeks is because in the country the average amount of holidays is 4 weeks, so 4 weeks was subtracted from 52 weeks so that means we included their holidays.
