to make the shortest line of balls you would have to put them in different sizes so that a small ball e.g. the tennis ball would be squashed between two big balls e.g. basketball, football then the tennis ball would be near the bottom of the big balls and would take up less of a diameter than if it was with a ball of it's size stretching right across the diameter. Therefore to make the longest line of balls you would put them in size order.
