I know that the smallest UK coin is 1p and the largest UK coin is £2. If Ben had 5 coins in his pocket the smallest amount he could have is 5p because 5x1p=5p and the largest amount is £10 because 5x£2=£10.
If Ben had only 1p coins in his pocket the smallest amount would be 5 x 1p = 5p and the largest amount would also be 5 x 1p = 5p
If Ben had only 2p coins in his pocket the smallest amount would be 5 x 2p = 10p and the largest amount would also be 5 x 2p = 10p.
If Ben had a mixture of 1p coins and 2p coins in his pocket the smallest amount would be :
1p+1p+1p+1p+2p = 6p
and the largest amount would be:
1p+2p+2p+2p+2p = 9p
The rest of the combinations would be:
1p+1p+2p+2p+2p = 8p
1p+1p+1p+2p+2p=7p
