Kara has submitted a method for how to find the total number of sticks in the pattern containing 10 rows. She says: "It works like number bonds - it uses pairs of numbers that add together to make 30." You can see the number bonds to 30 in Kara's diagram.
Kara said that you need to follow this method:
1. Count the number of rows (in this case 10)
2. Take out the bottom row and the middle row.
3. Divide the number of rows by 2. 10 divided by 2 = 5
4. Count the number of sticks on the bottom row (10 x 3 = 30) and multiply by 5 (30 x 5 = 150), then add the 15 sticks in the fifth row. 150 + 15 = 165 sticks

If you do this with an odd number of rows (e.g. 11), you only take the bottom row away. This time the number bonds will equal 33. Multiply 33 by 5, then add the number in the bottom row (33). 165 + 33 = 198 sticks
