1. First I added the wholes of the two fractions together; 1+2=3
2. Next I added the actual fractions together by converting the denominators to the same number, if I was doing 1/2+1/8, for example I would convert the 1/2 to eighths; 2x4=8 1x4=4 which would make 4/8. Then I would add them together: 1/8+4/8=5/8.
3. Then I added the wholes and the fractions together; 3+5/8=3 5/8
This is the result of my sum.
Here are all the calculations I did:
1 1/2+1 1/2=3
1 1/2+1 1/4=2 3/4
1 1/2+1 1/8=2 5/8
1 1/2+ 1 1/16=2 9/16
1 1/4+1 1/4=2 1/2
1 1/4+1 1/8=2 3/8
1 1/4+1 1/16=2 5/16
1 1/8+1 1/8=2 1/4
1 1/8+1 1/16=2 3/16
1 1/16+1 1/16=2 1/8
The answers are all in their simplest forms.
