First we read the question and then we figured out that if one block is needed to make an up and down staircase with one step up and one step down we did 1x1=1 so they used one block which is the answer to 1x1 which equals 1 so one block the next thing we tested was 10x10 so we did 10 blocks up and 10 blocks down and we counted all of the blocks and we got 100 which is the answer to 10x10 and then we kept testing things they all were right so all you have to do is times the number steps up and down then that is how you get the question correct.
