NRICH in Wimbledon
NRICH supported an Independent-State School Partnership project which aimed to improve long-term aspiration and achievement in mathematics through creative problem-solving approaches to teaching and learning - both within and beyond the boundaries of the curriculum. NRICH worked with mathematics departments in the partnership through student workshops and collaborative professional development workshops for early career teachers.
This partnership was an extension of the existing London Challenge Wimbledon ISSP. The schools involved were Coombe Girls' School, Coombe Boys' School, King's College School, Ricards Lodge High School, Ursuline High School, Wimbledon High School, Raynes Park School and Grey Court School.
The core focus was the classroom learning of an identified group of Key Stage 4 students.
Our work concentrated on:
- Key mathematical processes - generalising, conjecturing, explaining, proving - and the application of mathematical knowledge/skills in unfamiliar situations
- Collaborative work with NRICH to develop Schemes of Work that foster higher level mathematical skills
