The way I worked the equation out is that I set up a table on a piece of blank paper with a=, b=, c= ext. Then I worked out what 3 x a= something with the units of 1, which was a=7. So then I worked out what b x 3 = something ending in 5 as I would have to carry my tens, of 2, from the previous answer. I used the same process until I got a value for a, b, c, d and e. then as I knew what the values were I did 1( already there) 4(a), 2(b), 8(c), 5(d) and 7(e) times by 3 and tested wether the answer would be 428571 and it was.
