Wait for a day with no wind

Attach a rope to the top of the tree
And one to the bottom.

Then mark the end of the rope with a marker and take off the rope.

Line the rope from the tree to the school.
If the rope is in the range of the school or more then you know not to cut it off, but if the rope is shorter than the distance from the school, then you're fine cutting it off.
