We celebrated National Numeracy Day in May 2023 and here we have gathered follow-up material to keep your students involved. Co-funded by KPMG and National Numeracy, National Numeracy Day (NND) is the annual campaign that aims to build brighter futures through number confidence.
To contribute to NND, Charlie and Liz led an online webinar for students aged 9 to 13. They chose three sets of NRICH tasks that aim to deepen students' understanding of place value:
Dicey Operations in Line
Dicey Operations
Dice and Spinners interactivity can be used to support some of the tasks above
If you missed the event, you can watch the recording of the webinar below. We hope teachers and their classes will revisit these tasks and they will continue to spark discussion and further mathematical thinking.
Teachers can also sign up to receive a free National Numeracy Day resource pack, which includes:
- ideas and printable materials
- a celebrity lesson starter video
- resources to help all ages feel good about maths
- access for students up to year 8 to enter the School Number Heroes competition to win a bundle of numeracy resources for your school.
Adults and children over 11 can also have a go at the National Numeracy Challenge to test their numeracy. The challenge will help improve number confidence through a tailored challenge to suit the needs of participants.
