Year 12 Girls in Mathematics Day

Overview

Are you a Year 12 girl currently studying A-level maths and wondering if a degree in maths or a related subject is for you? This Y12 Girls in Mathematics event will help support you to develop your advanced problem solving skills and mathematical understanding, and explore some of the exciting, challenging and rewarding mathematics you could meet if you choose to continue your mathematical studies at university. The day will include inspirational talks and engaging problem-solving workshops, as well as an opportunity to talk to current university mathematics students.

Aims

The aim of the day is to develop your advanced mathematical problem solving skills, and to give you a chance to explore the exciting, challenging and rewarding mathematics you might encounter if you choose to pursue the subject at degree level. The event will also give you more insight into the characteristics universities look for in prospective applicants for mathematics and related subjects.

Who will benefit from attending?

This event is aimed at Y12 girls studying A-level Mathematics, especially those who are considering studying a mathematically-related subject at university. You must be taking A-level (or equivalent) Mathematics, and we would expect you to be taking Further Mathematics as well if it is offered at your school, but if your school does not offer Further Mathematics you are also warmly welcomed.

Thanks to funding from the University of Cambridge Widening Participation Project Fund, we have some travel bursaries available if you need help with travel costs in order to attend (please note only students attending state maintained schools/academies are eligible to apply). To apply for a travel bursary, please complete the relevant section of the online booking form.

Please note that students must book individually using the online registration form and places must be pre-booked.
