Using pythagoras's rule, we can work out the length of the sides of the squares to work out the area. First, we need to draw a right angle triangle on the outside of one of the sides of the square. Because it is on dotted graph paper, we can work out the length of two of the sides and then square them both to work out the length of the other side. Lets say one of the sides is 3 and the other is 1. The other side that we dont know is the side of the square. First we must do 1 SQUARED+ 3 SQUARED=10. The square root of 10 is one side, so we know the the square root of to x the square root of 10 = 10. So the area of the square is 10.

We must remember that no matter what length it is the formular for pythagoras's rule will always be A SQUARED+B SQUARED=C SQUARED.
