As part of Y6 revision, my group worked on this problem together. They used their reasoning and understanding of prime numbers/square numbers to help them work out the solutions. If there were numbers they weren't sure about, they went through the times tables and used this knowledge to help them decide if they were prime numbers or not. There was a lot of discussion, high-level thinking and reasoning through discussion during this activity. By the end of the session, we had solutions for all the square numbers up to 400. They also started to spot patterns, for example for every other question (the odd square numbers) there was a solution where '2' could be used each time as one of the prime numbers. Our solution is attached and the children would be so happy if it gets published on the site!
