We looked at the problem as the start to our maths session.
When we looked at the pictures, we spotted some problems with how the children are measuring themselves and others.

Jack said that "In the last picture, the girl's hair is going up, so they can't measure her real height"

Chloe "I think the boy is finding it hard in the first picture because he can't see the top of his head and he has to move to read the numbers"

Freya said "The boy is finding it hard because he is looking up"

Floren "In the second picture the boy that is measuring is too small"
"because, especially if using measuring tape - the smaller boy can't reach and the first boy can't as he needs to stay still to be measured" - Shay
Shay "in the last picture she is too tall for one metre stick - they could use two or three, but it is unlikely they will need three"

Stan "in the second picture the boy is smaller and if you let go of the tape, it will go back and you can't stretch your arms up that high or see the numbers to find how tall he is"

Harry "in the last picture the tape is too small and wiggly so they can't really measure properly"

Bella "they could use a metre stick and if taller than a metre stick they could get another one - or a smaller ruler to add on to it"

Millie "The little boy with the tape measure finds it hard as he can't reach the bottom"

Imogen "in the second picture they could ask a grown up to help" or "find a taller person to measure you" Liam

Sam "in the second picture the little boy is struggling as he cannot see the top of the boy's head is measuring, so he can't exactly get the measurement"

Zara "Mine and Millie's solution is that the girl could be drawn around and then measuring her drawing - from the top to the bottom in a straight line.

Freddie "on the second picture, it would work better if the bigger boy measures the smaller boy - as he could reach"

Robert "if the little boy still wanted to measure the taller boy, he could ask a grown up to lift him, or use a step to reach"

Blythe "in the second picture he is finding it hard to measure as he is smaller"

Louis "the little boy should make the taller boy lie down so he can measure him like in the third picture"

Sarah "in the first picture the boy doesn't have anyone to help and doesn't know where the top of his head is to measure"

Logan "he is looking up so he moves his head and can't measure properly to know how tall he is in the first picture"
