When you have found the total of a square and also found the total of its 'pair', the difference between the totals is 8. This is the same with all the 'pairs'. The reason for this is: the difference between the numbers (e.g. 4 and 6, 3 and 5, 4 and 2, 3 and 1) and the difference the amount of numbers ( e.g. 4) multiplied together get the total of 8 which is the difference between the pairs of the pairs.
