A) At first I tried 1cm on the short side and 6cm on the long side, but that didn't work because
1+1+6=8cm.
After that I tried working systematically and kept going up in size order 7+2+2=11cm.
That didn't work either because it totaled 11cm. Instead of going up in a size on both of the sides, I just changed the short one. So the sum I did was
7+3+3=13cm.
Them i knew i had 3 rectangles along the bottom. Next I did
4x3=12 cm because there were 4 short sides.
Afterwards I done
3x7=21cm
21+12=33cm

B) The detail said the area was 60cm squared, so the first thing I did was write down all the possibilities of multiplying numbers to get the answer 60. I got,
5x12
6x10
4x15
2x30
3x20
When I saw that there were 5 small rectangles, I immediately thought of trying to break down the 5x12 sum. I thought the single vertical rectangle could be the 5cm side and the horizontal log rectangle would also be 5cm as they are the same size. However when I saw that I had 7cm left to fit in I knew it was an odd number, so the answer had to be a decimal and it is a prime number. The first one I did was
7 divided 2=3.5cm
5+3.5+3.5=12cm
5x12=60cm.
