You have 5 darts and your target score is 44.
You are an excellent player and every dart hits the board. How many different ways could you score 44? BUT You can NOT hit the same 5 numbers even in a different order. At least one number has to be different for each score of 44. Try putting your own set of numbers onto the dart board. You can use 44 as your target number or choose a new one. |

I wonder whether they have found all the possibilities? How could we check?
Teachers' Resources
Why do this problem?
This
activity is another opportunity for the children to work and
record results logically. This problem lends itself to using a
table to organise possible solutions.
Possible approach
A straightforward presentation and then when the pupils have
proceeded so far then gather together and discuss what they have
found to be a good idea in trying to get many solutions.
Key questions
What method have you used?
Possible extension
Pupils can be encouraged to invent variations making slight
changes.
Possible support
Calculators.
