Making maths: cones

The best way to make a cone is to start with a circle and cut out a wedge that reaches the centre.



What happens to the cone when the wedge changes size?

Trace around a plate or big bowl to get a big circle, or use some string and a drawing pin to make your own compass (see Drawing Curves)



What could you do with these cones? Make hats, megaphones, weird landscapes, rockets, party decorations ............
