Calculus notation

Who developed the dy/dx notation and f'(x) notation? and which is used most often for calculus?

The dy/dx notation is due to Leibniz who formulated the calculus in terms of infinitessimals (i.e. infinitely small numbers). This roughly corresponds to the modern notion of non standard analysis. The y' notation is due to Newton and his development of the calculus roughly corresponds to the modern Weierstrass ε- δ analysis.
