We think that is called the volume of our classroom. [Nov 13, 10:22 AM] Mrs May SA: Should we do an estimate or exact classroom size? [Nov 13, 10:22 AM] Miss_Hughes_5C: Oh no, we've measured our classroom in metres....brb just converting metres to cm [Nov 13, 10:23 AM] Miss Durrant: Testing our brains this morning! [Nov 13, 10:25 AM] NRICHClaire: Sorry about all the problems with sound. [Nov 13, 10:25 AM] CCPS 5SH: First question straight away, what is the length, width and depth of our classroom!? [Nov 13, 10:26 AM] Guest: At TM, we are struggling with our classroom's sloping roof! [Nov 13, 10:26 AM] NRICHClaire: Guest: What a great challenge for you! [Nov 13, 10:26 AM] Mrs May SA: We have a very odd shaped classroom! [Nov 13, 10:26 AM] Guest3436: Gayhurst School are measuring the height, length and width of the room. The trundle wheel is out! With the volume of the room and the given the dimensions we are trying to work out the number of big teddies we can get in the room [Nov 13, 10:26 AM] Guest8213: We're pretending the very high sloping roof doesn't exist and that the roof is flat! [Nov 13, 10:27 AM] Guest4445: Tilly has just suggested that we estimate the size of the ceiling tiles and use that to help us decide on the dimensions! [Nov 13, 10:27 AM] AndrewSharpe: Some great questions coming up. The discussions about them with your students are the most important part. [Nov 13, 10:27 AM] Guest7525: Measuring the room with a metre stick :) [Nov 13, 10:27 AM] NRICHClaire: If you are estimating, can you approximate the shape of your room in some way? [Nov 13, 10:27 AM] Guest6305: We have some great discussions taking place at Finchale Primary School. [Nov 13, 10:27 AM] Class 8 LHJS: We're estimated our classroom with foot steps - now converting from m to cm or vice versa! [Nov 13, 10:27 AM] NRICHClaire: Guest4445: Wonderful idea Tilly! [Nov 13, 10:28 AM] St G 5E: Some children are pacing out the dimensions of the room to see how long it is [Nov 13, 10:28 AM] Miss_Hughes_5C: We had a fun time using x 10 and x 100 to calculate the volume of our classroom! [Nov 13, 10:28 AM] ParkgateRhinos: We have worked out the dimensions of our classroom and then worked out 1 layer of teddies. now we are working out how mant layers we need. [Nov 13, 10:28 AM] NRICHClaire: Lots of lovely ideas of how to estimate the dimensions of the room. [Nov 13, 10:28 AM] SWCHS 8MaWA: our classroom has a slanting roof so we are assuming the cross section is a trapezium. Unfortunately we don't know a formula for a trapezium yet so we're finding the area by splitting it into a rectangle and a triangle. We've used the fact that the height of the door is about 2m to estimate that the room is 5m tall at the high end and 4m at the lower end. We've also measured a desk (110cm) and used this to estimate the length and width as 8m and 6m. [Nov 13, 10:28 AM] Dore Primary 6P: Our measurement teams have measured our classroom but the measurements are in M, not Cm. They are now using their conversion skills. [Nov 13, 10:29 AM] Guest8458: gg [Nov 13, 10:29 AM] Guest1966: We are assuming the classroom is empty [Nov 13, 10:29 AM] WVC 8w1: There are 26 of us working on this problem. We have found the dimensions of the room and now looking at how many teddies we could stack on each other for the height and how many we can put against the sides of the room. [Nov 13, 10:29 AM] NRICHClaire: SWCHS: Great! [Nov 13, 10:29 AM] Guest7898: we measured our room and calculated the volume. [Nov 13, 10:29 AM] RMcAndrew: TGS Can we have teddy bears please to double check our answer :) [Nov 13, 10:30 AM] Guest814: sorry mine is 22227 [Nov 13, 10:30 AM] NRICHClaire: RMcAndrew: Not sure we can run to that many bears!
