This problem was a challenge to your fraction skills. Many of you took on the challenge and sent in some very impressive examples of work. As Jade from Tattingstone Primary School commented, "I found this problem really easy once I knew how to do it. I thought that the hardest part in doing this problem was when I had to find the fraction for the triangles". Below you will see some of the ways that solutions were shown. Do you agree with them all?

This first explanation came from Marion Sanders (aged 10) from Tattingstone School. This was a very clear and thorough description of how to find the answers for each of the sections of the rectangle.

Marion Sander's solution.

Or to put the results into a table form:

1. 1/8 2. 1/16 3. 3/16 4. 1/16 5. 1/8
6. 1/16 7. 3/32 8. 1/32 9. 1/32 10. 1/64

Thank you to Rebecca Bartram, Sarah Peake, Holly West, Caroline Anderton and Florence Marsden all pupils in Year 7 at The Mount School in York for sending in this diagram. Also, well done to Thomas Chiang of Worth School, Jonathan Munn, Jasmine Aldred and David Muff for their answers.
