It would be good if every child could have their own set of the 10 'Double 3 Down' dominoes, so if doing this with the whole class, that will probably mean photocopying and cutting out sets. Perhaps the children could make their own as a craft activity.
The children may benefit from exploring patterns and counting/adding the
spots in warm-up activities.

It would also be helpful to practise putting the dominoes into the particular square arrangement needed for the problem.
Encourage the most capable children to extend the problem. Can a similar square (or rectangle?) be made with the 'Double 4 Down' set of dominoes, or the 'Double 5 Down set....?
