This problem requires systematic thinking to find all the
different combinations.
Key questions
Which kind of sweets can Dan have?
Which kind of sweets does Sid like?
Can you find four sweets that Dan could have? Can
you find another four sweets that he could have?
What could Sid and Anna have if Dan had just mints?
Possible extension
Finding ALL the different ways the children can share the sweets is
quite a challenge and could in itself be the extension
activity.
Possible support
It might be helpful for children to start by finding the different
ways Dan can have his four sweets. Having different
counters to represent the different types of sweet may be
useful.
