Investigations and proof

Most investigations are also listed under the areas of maths involved.

Many of the problems listed below can be investigated at a number of levels, and the level indicated refers to the level of the discussion.

Coursework

We frequently get questions about investigations being undertaken as examination coursework. If you are doing one of these problems as coursework, you should make sure that you follow the exam board rules about declaring any help you have had. In general, there is nothing wrong with using the internet for research, but you need to say that that is what you have done, and probably attach a printout of the material you have found.

Won't that affect the mark?

Probably not. We usually give hints, rather than telling you what to do. You would get credit for carrying out the work, and explaining why you are doing what you are doing.
Sometimes we have explained a new area of maths to someone: in this case, if you attach a printout, and show in your write-up that you understand what you have read about, you should gain credit.
