A percentage just means "out of one hundred". So 7% would equal 7/100 or .07. Therefore to find seven percent of 450, you would multiply .07 by 450.

I need to calculate the increase/decrease percentage between last years and this years budget. Last year: $20,000 This year: $59,000

What is the formula for finding the answer?

Amount of inc. or dec. and divide this by the original amount. then multiply by 100 to get the %.

ie.. Car £15 and last year it was £10
Amount of Increase=£5
Original Amount=£10
Amt. of inc. / Original Amt = £5/£10 = 0.5
0.5 x 100 = 50%
There has been an increase of 50%.
