It's the first of our 'Maths and the Olympics' months, so the TWILGO challenges for January are all about recreating the Olympic logo, the five intersecting rings. We can't show the logo here as it's copyright, so you might want to remind yourself of the colours and the way the hoops are linked before you get going. Then click here to get started.
There are three challenges:
Challenge 1
What's the shortest set of instructions you can write to make the five rings all in the same colour, each ring being a single but quite thick line?
Challenge 2
What's the shortest set of instructions you can write to make the five rings in the five different colours, with the three rings at the top lying underneath the two rings at the bottom, ie no intersecting ? Here's a picture..
Challenge 3
We think this is very hard!! What's the closest you can get to making the five rings in the five different colours, with the rings intersecting like this...
