Out and about with the team in November

liz

Liz

  • launched an exciting new project for primary teachers in Devon in conjunction with Devon Education Services. The participating teachers worked on the Magic Vs problem with Liz, reflecting on what makes this problem a 'rich task'.
  • led two video conference days with Motivate. Each conference focused on mathematical games and was aimed at 8-10 year olds. You can find out what we got up to on the Motivate website .
  • worked with Michael Hall (Haringey LA) during the second curriculum development day of the Creativity and Confidence Project . Teachers on the project reported back about the NRICH activities they had tried with their classes. We grappled with several important issues that arose in discussion - that games can offer accessible starting points for all children; that hint cards and mini-plenaries can provide ways to support children as they work on problems; that it is often appropriate to record 'evidence' using photographs or by annotating plans as opposed to expecting lots of written recording from children.
  • continues to develop primary resources for the website with other members of the primary team.

Other Activities

In November we relaunched the NRICH website with a greater emphasis on making clear what we do and adapting the layout to meet the needs of our users. We have received some very positive feedback so far and are beginnig to address some of the small things you have suggested we change. However, this process is ongoing and we would really like to know:
1. What features of the new site do you particularly like?
2. What features of the new site do you not like?
3. What changes could we make to improve the new site?
4. Have you had any problems accessing material on the new site?
5. What level of maths are you studying or teaching?

Please email any comments to Steve Hewson . Thanks.

Why not take a look at the NEW BioNRICH section of the site.
