Make a cube out of straws and have a go at this practical
Investigate the number of faces you can see when you arrange three cubes in different ways.
We need to wrap up this cube-shaped present, remembering that we
can have no overlaps. What shapes can you find to use?
We had great solutions to
this problem from children at Cupernham Junior School and also from
Christopher. Both Scarlett from Cupernham and Christopher began by
drawing the faces of the cube they had made:
However, it is a little
difficult to be clear how the sides fit together and Scarlett
explained that she decided to draw the results as a net
Then her friends joined in
and sent us different nets of the same cube:
Abigail and William
