Celebrate the end of term by joining us for a creative maths-filled day with the NRICH team
A free CPD event for innovative teachers of mathematics at Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 who are interested in offering creative opportunities to their students.
Creative thinking and imagination are central to being an outstanding mathematician - famously, one of the 20th century's most celebrated mathematical writers, G.H. Hardy, described mathematicians as being like poets and painters, and mathematics as a creative art. Mathematics involves spotting patterns, making connections, finding new ways of looking at things and being inspired to apply what you already know in new contexts. It involves playing around with ideas, having the courage to experiment and asking new questions.
NRICH tasks have always helped to develop mathematical thinking and promote mathematical exploration. We're currently working on an exciting new project focused on taking that even further, developing new resources for students which will promote and provide opportunities to develop mathematical creativity. We're devising activities for young people, aged 7-16, who are interested in maths and will be interested in exploring and playing around with some unexpected ideas.
Aim of the day:
The event will focus on ideas for promoting mathematical creativity and developing mathematical thinking. The day will involve a mixture of plenary sessions and smaller group workshops. It will be highly interactive and will offer opportunities to work in and across key phases.
This is also the first time we will be sharing our thinking to date on our new project, and will include opportunities to discuss new resources in development and get involved.
