This
problem
is a good starter for pupils to do a bit of problem solving when
their awareness of dice is not developed. It enables a
lot of adition to take place without the monotony of just doing a
set of sums.
Possible approach
According to the age and experience of the pupils you could
approach this activity with or without the use of dice. It would
certainly be a good challenge for quite a range of pupils and
enable them to all be working on the same activity but use
different skills to acquire solutions.

How can you make sure you have considered all the
possibilities?
Possible extension
Look at other polyhedra dice. What about dice that have
different sets of numbers on such as a six sided dice having
2,4,6,8,10,12 on the faces?
